The grand challenge for direct seawater electrolysis lies in achieving simultaneously high bifunctional activity and long-term durability, which is governed by the electronic structure and stability of interfacial active motifs. Here, we identify that Ru− Ov− Ti interfacial motifs, constructed by introducing trace Ru into TiO2 grown in situ on conductive Ti3C2Tx MXene, as electron-regulating motif to address this bottleneck.
